I'M BACK

Well, suffice it to say, it's been awhile. I'd stopped being a vegetarian, moved on to other blogging platforms, generally got bored with eating out in Atlanta...but I found a veggie burger that needs a shout.

This is the veggie burger at Bookhouse Pub, complimented by a very capable side salad garnished with picked red onion (YUM). As with all veggie burgers, there is a slight texture problem, but it holds together better than most and the chef has the good sense not to let the pattie circumference exceed that of the bun. I had mine with a tangy-sweet Asian barbeque sauce, which took it to a whole other level. I would liken the thought put into this veggie burger to that of Holeman and Finch: all the the constituent parts are of good quality, which shows through in the overall taste and texture of the seemingly-over simple dish. For once, I haven't felt as though this was an afterthought - a "vegetarian option." Meat eaters looking for a night off will enjoy the surprise bites of edamame and hint of sesame in the barbeque sauce just as well as we vegetarians do. I do wish that the barbeque sauce were a little thicker (the consistency is likened more to a glaze), but it wasn't absorbed and overrun by the burger or bun so I can't quibble too much. My only complaint was no balsalmic dressing for the salad, though the beet "vinaigrette" I ordered was indeed flavorful, if over-thick.

This tasty surprise gets an A-, and with Cafe di Sol's offering tops my list of veggie burgers in the city.
